La Bienvenida 2022
La Bienvenida is a Spanish-language new student orientation at Washington State University that invites the students' whole families to attend. WSU has seen that for many Latino/a students, especially first generation students, attending college is a family affair. Bringing the family to orientation and allowing them to access those who will be helping their student through this journey has shown huge results in terms of student retention and success. This program runs in June and July on the Pullman, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses. Each campus needs slightly different materials, so each has their own booklet with campus-specific information, and other pieces to ensure this program runs smoothly each year.
This project is always a huge endeavor each year due to all of the moving parts. However it involves one of my favorite types of projects; long-format booklets. I was able to build a structure into the file that made it easy to switch content in and out between campuses and years. In addition, working in a language I speak at only a basic level is a fun challenge.
